FECT Weather and Climate Research work in SIRC at Maathodaa

The Small Island Research Centre was established by Land and Marine Environmental Resource Group (LaMer) Pte Ltd in the Maldives. SIRC mainly focuses on the study of morphology , Climate change and marine science. The Foundation for Environment, Climate and Technology is involved in weather and climate research at SIRC Maathodaa, The research centre has the facilities to host researchers in Maathodaa centre and helps facilitate research by overcoming obstacles such as obtaining government accessing clearances for scientists and providing accommodation, logistical and infrastructure support.

Under the PEER cycle 3 grant awarded to FECT , MNU and others, two automatic weather stations were made available to MNU and to LaMER for the Small Island Research Centre(SIRC) at Maathodaa Island in the Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll. LaMER has installed this weather stations at Mathoda, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll near the equator (0° 12' 9.36" N, 73° 11' 5.08" E) and observations are available from October 2016. The SIRC facility is currently engaged in addressing sustainability problems in small islands and is looking into ways to accommodate researchers both local and international research efforts while bolstering existing research efforts in the Maldives as well as building an international profile of research emanating from the Maldives.
